Each year EU-wide, 167,000 deaths are attributable to work-related accidents/illnesses, and the number of occupational accidents is estimated at 7 million. Apart from tragic individual consequences, the loss of earnings is around a billion euros a year. Improving workers' health and safety is therefore key for the EU. The European Commissions 5-year strategy is aiming for a 25% reduction in occupational accidents by 2012.This is what the campaign by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) is about.
